Doin Time in Times Square

Despite the success of Charlie Ahearn's seminal hip-hop film Wild Style, in 1991, he created a video journal through the window of his Times Square apartment. He managed to capture Times Square, in all of its' pre-Giuliani glory, during a period of unbridled tension, when Times Square was full of low brow adult side shows and arcades, poverty, hookers, and yes, even high brow theatre a block away.
DVD FEATURES: Kai Eric interviews Charlie Ahearn at Times Square in 2007 (14 minutes), Jane in Peepland' (20 minutes)

WHY WE CHOSE THIS FILM:

This is a documentary like no other. This is a side of Times Square that a lot of New York wants to forget. Charlie Ahearn made a video journal of what he saw from his window, and it begs you not to look away.
